At CeBIT, the Telekom subsidiary will for the first time be presenting a solution that will enable employees of the German federal government and authorities to send and receive e-mails wirelessly. The technology complies with the special security regulations required by government offices, for example. The German Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) commissioned T-Systems to develop the solution.
The German Federal Office of Information Security (BSI) has tested the new solution and recommends it for tasks that require the highest security standards. T-Systems will also offer this high-security solution to its business customers. Since the solution is largely based on market-typical technological standards, it can be integrated into almost any ICT infrastructure. Customers can choose between two security classes.
The main advantage in securing mobile communications offers within the private sector is having the T-Systems solution meet the highest security standards for data security required by the BMI. To do this, the special devices used establish a direct connection to the corporate network with-out any detours through third-party servers, leading directly to the business applications. In addition, all data transmitted via this connection are encrypted. Should an end-device be lost by a user, it will still be impossible for third parties to access the information it contains since users need to enter access codes to retrieve data or establish a connection.
Solution on the basis of Windows Mobile 3
The T-Systems secure mobile communications solution – or SiMKo – is based on the Windows Mobile 3 operating system. This operating system enables the use of typical MDA applications such as e-mails, calendar entries, contacts, tasks and notes.
Further development on the basis of Windows Mobile 5
A T-Systems solution on the basis of Windows Mobile 5 is available for business customers and is being tested for use by government offices and authorities.
