When customers switch network providers, they can keep their cell-phone number – and T-Systems ensures smooth data transfer.
In Germany and in many other countries, cell-phone users have a legal right to keep their number when changing network operators. Service providers must enable mobile number portability (MNP) by providing other operators with the corresponding data. This porting information is exchanged via the central master routing database (zMRDB). T-Systems operates and enables access to this database on behalf of T-Mobile, Vodafone D2, O2 (Germany), E-Plus, vistream and ring Mobilfunk. Access is subject to payment, and is only available to organizations that can demonstrate a legitimate interest in the data, and have signed a corresponding contract. T-Systems has created a dedicated service team to answer all queries relating to the database.
How does the master routing database work?
The new network operator posts a porting request in the central database. The previous service provider, and subsequently all other network operators, confirm the porting request and enable routing in their networks for the ported number. The exchange of porting data via the master routing database is standardized, automated, and fast. What’s more, T-Systems is committed to ensuring 99 percent availability of the database.
