Simple ICT Rental Solution

What good is tradition when there is no future? Things have been pretty turbulent for SycoTec recently. T-Systems has eased the way to a promising future for the precision engineering and electric motor specialists.
Anyone who regularly climbs into the dentist’s chair will know the slurping sound only too well. The assistant uses a plastic nozzle to suck away anything that could impede the dentist’s work. For their intricate work, dentists generally use high-tech instruments from SycoTec. Having specialized in precision engineering components and electrical drive mechanisms for around 50 years, SycoTec also produces dental components. However, two years ago SycoTec had to start again, more or less from square one. As part of a large corporate group, the factory at Leutkirchen was threatened with closure. That’s when one of the directors of the parent company decided to go it alone with SycoTec at his own risk.
Production continued smoothly, however the ICT infrastructure hit a barrier. SycoTec had previously had a dedicated line to the group’s shared data network. The Leutkirchen-based company needed to make up ground fast. Moreover, the entire desktop environment and the operations and service organizations were lost.
In just a few months, the company had been equipped with a new local network, a link to the external information highway and a modern computer environment. “The huge time pressures involved meant that this project was a real challenge.” says SycoTec’s boss Dr. Martin Rickert, looking back over the last year. However, the biggest problem was the company’s financial situation. “SycoTec was classified as a new business. This meant that leasing was out of the question for its first financial year.” Help came from the Deutsche Telekom subsidiary, which provided everything – not just the technical equipment – from a single source. Offering a rental model for the entire ICT infrastructure, it made SycoTec independent of the leasing companies. Dr. Rickert summarizes, “Even the one-off costs, service and operations were covered in single monthly rental installments.”
