T-Systems and Intel collaborate more closely / Developing ICT solutions and capture markets together / Contract signed at CeBIT

Frankfurt am Main / Hanover, March 05, 2008

T-Systems and Intel announced a new partnership today at CeBIT. In future, both companies will consolidate their resources and expertise to develop ICT solutions together, expand their existing market shares, and capture new markets around the world. Intel will contribute its technological capabilities while T-Systems adds its solution expertise. Customers will enjoy rapid access to the latest hardware technology combined with network-centric services.
The collaboration between T-Systems and Intel will extend to nearly all ICT areas, including solutions for merchandise and materials tracking, automotive, health care, mobility, green IT, and managed desktop services. In one example, T-Systems will provide for the seamless operation of workplace computers and mobile devices across their entire life cycle, including professional disposal. This will be based on Intel®vPro™ technology to enable cost-effective remote maintenance and update the software from a central point, without impacting the user's working time. The Intel technology lets dormant computers be switched off automatically, through a console, saving electricity and improving a company's CO2 balance.
"This collaboration will give our customers rapid access to the latest generation of technology, combined with end-to-end ICT solutions", says Joachim A. Langmack, Director of Sales and Service at T-Systems. "These ICT solutions help our customers to build flexible processes and streamline them, but without sacrificing quality," continues Langmack. "New technologies will no longer be implemented as pilot projects, but instead provided as part of T-Systems end-to-end services. Compliance with all relevant international standards is guaranteed."
"With its 160,000 business customers, T-Systems knows exactly what the market needs. Direct communication channels will help us to quickly adapt our technologies to these needs and maximize user benefit," says Hannes Schwaderer, Managing Director of Intel in Germany. "The Auto-ID/RES platform for materials tracking, which is operated by T-Systems and which we have expanded continuously over the past two years, is proof that this approach works. We now intend to expand our areas of activity."
The standardized, supplier-independent AutoID/Right Time Enterprise Services (RES) platform provides all services for the automatic identification of materials, packaging, cargo carriers, and means of transport across the entire value chain. All data and information about the flows of goods are recorded automatically and contact-free through radio signals – whether transmitted via WLAN, GPS, bar code, sensor technology, or RFID (radio frequency identification). The solution then provides this data to everyone involved in the value chain, in the right quality and at the right time. Standardized interfaces let companies integrate the solution with their own ERP (enterprise resource planning) or warehousing systems. Instead of investing in the AutoID technology and infrastructure themselves, they merely pay a fee for each executed transaction.
Another solution for cross-company collaboration in the automotive area is PLATON (Platform for Orchestrated Engineering Networks). This platform lets staff of manufacturers and suppliers work on documents together and exchange confidential information through secure network connections.
