T-Systems Spain has again been awarded the contract to provide IT and communications services for the government of Catalonia. T-Systems will be responsible for the provision and management of the information management systems of the Catalan Administration’s IT department until 2009, with a maximum period of extension of two years. The total value of the contract is €87 million.
For the next four years, T-Systems Spain will be responsible for the management of the information systems of the corporate IT department of Catalan Generalitat, the autonomous government of Catalonia. The division of Deutsche Telekom charged with providing business customers with IT and communications solutions, located at the 22@ technology district in Barcelona, will maintain responsibility for the management of the data center, processing platforms, storage network and service recovery.
"Generalitat is one of T-Systems’ largest customers in the public sector worldwide," stated Lothar Pauly, Member of the Deutsche Telekom Board of Management and CEO of T-Systems. "And projects successfully realized with Generalitat in Catalonia have served as leading edge examples throughout Europe, winning several international prizes. Hence this contract is extremely important for our global business and we will continue to provide our global skills and resources to the service of Generalitat."
According to Ginés Alarcón, CEO of T-Systems Spain, "this important deal shows our strong commitment to Catalonia and Barcelona. The long term cooperation with Generalitat would not have been possible without confidence in T-Systems’ ability to perform."
The tender for the outsourcing of the central ICT services of the Catalan Administration was opened in April 2005, with a maximum tendered amount of over €136 million, split into three lots based on specific technical features.
