At RoboNight 2009, student Lego robots battled it out. One of their tasks among others was to tear down the Berlin Wall.
After the self-made robots walked around a model of Germany with the help of integrated sensors, they had to build a bridge and cross it. Then they had to remove certain parts of the Berlin Wall to tear it down. Students of Saarland-based schools had a couple of hours in the morning to build the robots with the help of technology from Mindstorm.
A total of ten teams battled it out. The jury decided that the VDL team with Stefan Mathis and Fabian Wobito from the “Von der Leyen” gymnasium, which is located in Blieskastel, were the winners. 250 guests, including parents and teachers, supported the young inventors.
Playful innovation spirit
T-Systems and the University of Applied Sciences, Saarland hosted this event, which took place for the seventh time. Dr. Ferri Abolhassan, a member of the T-Systems executive management, said, “Our goal is to get young people interested in a university program or an apprenticeship in the ICT area. This competition allows students to experience the innovation and engineering spirit and have fun doing it.”
