Kindergarten eRegistration

November 17, 2009

Kindergartens at T-City Friedrichshafen will soon be registering students online, using a T-Systems Internet platform.
Typically, if you want to find a spot at a kindergarten, you have to invest a lot of time. Months can pass from the time you start looking for the right kindergarten, sign your kids up and finally get the confirmation letter. An online platform will soon simplify this process for parents and kindergartens alike.
To make this happen, T-Systems has developed the online information portal "KindergartenOnline" in Friedrichshafen. Parents can visit the platform to get information such as brief descriptions or contact info for the city's 33 kindergartens. In order to simplify the registration process, parents can put their names down for up to three kindergartens. The system then sends a request to the first kindergarten on the list. If that kindergarten is already full, the system sends an inquiry to the next one.
Less work for parents and kindergartens
Mayor Peter Hauswald says, "This will make the selection and registration process more transparent and more convenient for parents." The portal can help kindergartens as well. They can use the platform to keep track of open spots and registration. This gives them an overview of which children are signed up at what school and how high the demand for kindergarten spots in Friedrichshafen truly is.
T-Systems provides the entire system centrally online. That means that kindergartens do not need to install any additional software. All they need is a computer and Internet access. "KindergartenOnline could be used by basically any other city in Germany," says Ferdinand Tempel, Director of the T-City office.
