New data center in Brazil planned

T-Systems is banking on Green IT – globally. Starting 2010, a new energy-efficient data center of Deutsche Telekom's major customers division will operate in São Paulo.
The need for computing power and memory is growing constantly worldwide. To accommodate both its local and global customers, T-Systems is now building a data center in South America that offers two distinct advantages. Firstly, it fulfills such high requirements for data safety, availability and access protection that it will be classified as "tier 3." Only IT systems with a very high safety level receive this distinction.
Energy-efficient operation
Secondly, the energy efficiency of the projected data center is so high that if fulfills the environmental standard ISO 14.000. T-Systems achieves a PUE (power usage effectiveness) value of 1.6 here. This value indicates how much of the total energy consumption the data center has to use for cooling. Comparable data centers currently in operation achieve 1.7 to 1.8 on average.
More than 2,000 servers will be housed in up to 1,200 square meters of space. A memory capacity of 70 terabytes offers customers ample space for their data. And there is also a generous backup: The new data center offers 30 petabytes for secure storage of corporate data – and for system restore, if required.
