Web 2.0 in the spotlight
September 08, 2010
T-Systems and T-Systems MMS have created a new website for health insurer BARMER GEK. The focus: a clearly laid out design and interactive functions.

Every third Internet user regularly obtains information about health issues from the Web. So say the results of the “Health Care Monitoring 2009” study conducted by market researcher YouGovPsychonomics AG. BARMER GEK has recognized this trend and aims to present itself as “the health expert” with its new website. The portal, which serves more than 8.5 million insured persons, was created after the merger of Barmer and GEK. T-Systems subsidiary T-Systems Multimedia Solutions developed and programmed the portal. T-Systems itself provides the backend systems, takes care of the network connection and does the technical support.
The most important innovation is the allocation of contents to the “Products & Services” and “Knowledge & Dialog” categories, which address the various concerns of the portal visitors. The “Products & Services” category contains basic information such as requests and contacts. Under “Knowledge & Dialog” users will find interactive contents and a media center. The contents are embedded in an entirely refurbished design. BARMER GEK actively involved its customers in the redesign process, who were able to propose their ideas in workshops and surveys.
After the relaunch of the portal, BARMER GEK plans to commission T-Systems with the revision of additional portals. The company is the ICT service provider’s biggest customer in the health care sector. Among other things, T-Systems operates an upstream data center and various service platforms of BARMER GEK.
