    Updating OBUs via Remote Control

    December 29, 2005

The truck toll system on Germany’s highways is running smoothly. As of January 1st, 2006, new toll system software came into effect in Germany. This means that all of the devices on board the trucks subject to toll charges need a new software version.
The principle: The On-Board Units (OBUs) record when a truck travels on a highway subject to toll charges. Toll Collect’s central office receives a message via SMS and can send the invoice to the shipper. The new software OBU 2.0 now offers additional functionalities because it is supplied with current data via remote. It is always up-to-date every time the driver climbs into the cab and turns the key. Regardless of whether the rates have changed or a new stretch of road has been added to the toll system.
This “made in Germany” innovation is attracting keen interest from abroad. Many international delegations have already taken a closer look at the new highway toll system – and not least because many countries are considering or actively preparing to implement toll systems.
