Aviation specialist flies on Dynamic Services for SAP® Solutions

The international Swiss aviation logistics and maintenance specialist Jet Aviation has opted for networked, high-availability SAP solutions – and for Dynamic Services from T-Systems – to manage its business processes efficiently.
Successful for decades in the turbulent aviation market, Swiss company Jet Aviation, which was set up in 1967, offers a wide range of services covering the entire aircraft maintenance chain. Core competences also include engineering, avionics, aircraft interior outfitting, ground services or aircraft management through to the purchase and sale of aircraft. At 25 company locations in several time zones, 5,700 staff work hand in hand in this highly safety-sensitive industry. A key challenge is the need for computing capacity that fluctuates over the business cycle.

Solution
Dynamic Services for SAP® Solutions with its flexible provisioning of IT resources helps eliminate capacity bottlenecks, increase flexibility, dynamically tailor computing power to business operations and reduce costs according to the actual quantity used. At Jet Aviation the system is configured for around half of the 1,200 users during normal operation. Where necessary additional capacity can be added within a question of minutes, say if the response times increase due to high access rates. Jet Aviation has outsourced the entire operation of its IT applications to T-Systems. The data center at the Langenthal location utilizes virtualization-based pooling effects and is connected to all of Jet Aviation's international locations. Monthly reports provide the customer with complete transparency on the computing power used and the service quality. Two geographically separate, mirrored data centers provide additional security – in an emergency one can always take over from the other. T-Systems has also set up a service desk to answer all queries.

An IT environment that always has the power the company needs at any given moment. With flexible computing power – and no charge for unused capacity. That is the basic concept behind Dynamic Services from T-Systems. Consequently, up to a multiple of the contractually agreed quota of IT capacity can be added, say for just-in-time logistics when ordering aircraft components or as part of release updates. And although the need for flexible adjustment of capacity was more important to Jet Aviation than cost reduction, Jet Aviation is saving around 15% of costs compared with the previous, inflexible solution. And future viability is an equally compelling reason for this genuinely flexible system. Because the company is prepared for future business developments and is in a position to extend its service portfolio and expand the business.
