- The way to UCC is primarily dependent on each company's individual needs. Because UCC is a concept and not a technological solution, there is no real "right" approach. Instead, it's better to keep in mind that: Many roads lead to Rome.

- Establish UCC solutions gradually. This gives companies the chance to decide when they want to integrate which applications. They can adjust progress to fit their budget and corporate development.

- Integrate UCC into your existing ICT infrastructure. This limits investments in new communications and IT components and gives you room to integrate IT solutions in addition to pure PIM applications.

- UCC solutions should be flexible. Although they typically begin with selected subprojects, it should be possible to gradually integrate more employees.

- Open interfaces are a must. Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) plays a central role. This network protocol establishes communication sessions between two or more participants and manages these sessions. That means the service provider needs to say good-bye to proprietary standards.
