Interview with Dr. Christian Müller, Vice President Conditions/Collective Bargaining Policy/Employee Participation IT Brief Deutsche Post AG and Hans Fabian, Vice President, IT Brief/IT Service Delivery Deutsche Post AG.

Mr. Fabian, recently two outsourcing projects took place with T-Systems which entailed an employee migration from Deutsche Post to the ICT service provider.
Fabian: T-Systems took over four IT Services GmbH sites from us, whereby 216 colleagues switched to the new employer. These were legal business transfers pursuant to article 613a of the German Civil Code, which defines the rights and obligations of a business transfer.
Müller: The second contract concerned employees of Deutsche Post IT Brief GmbH. The initial situation here was somewhat more complex. Some 101 employees made the switch – based on article 613a on the one hand and on the basis of individual contractual offers on the other hand. In some cases, entire teams migrated to T-Systems, as well as employees with special responsibilities.

Did the employees have to relocate?
Müller: We were able to ensure that the former colleagues could remain in their respective places of work. Some examples are Darmstadt, Bonn and Dresden. The employees in Darmstadt are now working only a few hundred meters from their former place of employment.

Have your expectations for both outsourcing projects been met?
Fabian: We obtained assurances that the former colleagues would be able to carry over their current duties and responsibilities to their new employer and initially continue working as before. It is normal for not everything to work smoothly right away during outsourcing projects. Nevertheless, we are on the path to achieving the desired quality. Comprehensive reporting allows us to identify weaknesses early on and to improve on these step by step together with T-Systems. We are assuming that the quality will increase after the start-up phase.

How would you assess the personnel side of the outsourcing? Has it been successful?
Müller: From the very beginning we had a very good impression of how T-Systems handled things in this respect. The employee migration was prepared and conducted in a very professional manner. The T-Systems team did a first-rate job. There was continuous exchange between everyone involved. And one of the positive things we noticed is that the employees were truly shown a lot of appreciation.

Did you have the impression that T-Systems went above and beyond what was expected?
Fabian: The people side of things was very impressive. After all, many colleagues had to switch employers. And this type of thing is usually paired with a dose of skepticism. I myself have certainly experienced a different way of doing things during my professional career. In my case the new employment contract was presented, signed and implemented. That was it.
