More flights, more profitability
February 16, 2010
ICT systems at airports save passengers from long wait times at check-in. The airports themselves benefit from short airplane transit times.

Some 9,000 airplanes pass through German airports every day. Prompt, comprehensive information is essential for everything to go smoothly and punctually. Flexibility is required if the arrival time of an airplane is delayed by even a few minutes. The tower must navigate pilots to different positions, follow-me cars drive different routes and passenger boarding has been changed from gate 22 to gate 17. And baggage transport, fueling vehicles and catering trucks must also be rerouted. At many airports, employees involved in the above tasks still coordinate over the phone .
Uniform database in real-time
The check-in process can be managed much faster and reliably online on the computer. The entire staff is involved in resolving traffic control problems in real-time using uniform data. Airplane transit times are decreased through seamless coordination of all airplane and passenger processes, from touchdown on the landing strip to “ready for take-off.” The gates are cleared more quickly for processing other airplanes. This translates into more flights per day, shorter wait times for passengers and more profitability for airports.
