KAESER KOMPRESSOREN SE: Industry 4.0 makes the manufacturer a service provider

Industry 4.0 at KAESER COMPRESSORS brings Production 4.0 to its customers. “Compressed Air as a Service” is a perfect example of how digitization is changing existing markets and creating new ones. The company, a global leading provider of compressed air management systems, recognized at an early stage that its customers are generally not interested in machines – they are essentially interested in efficient compressed air supply. But this concept means a realignment of KAESER's IT and processes.
KAESER machines are distributed worldwide in numerous countries and characterized by Industry 4.0. The systems must be constantly monitored and the high data volumes must be analyzed in real time. Because downtime means sales losses – both for KAESER and for its customers. Forecast models that enable what we now call Predictive Maintenance long before a fault occurs are simply indispensable.  And the solution must also function on mobile devices so that field staff are informed in good time and provided the right data on-site. Security is also a key issue. Firstly because KAESER customers' production must run continuously, and secondly because it's all about protecting sensitive data.

Taking care of core business with Industry 4.0

The solution concept for Industry 4.0 at KAESER reads like a “who's who” of innovative IT, fully managed by T-Systems. At the KAESER customer, there is an industrial PC with software for the Internet of Things from SAP, on which the sensor data is collected and then sent to the T-Systems machine-to-machine platform. On-site at KAESER is a SAP HANA® platform equipped with SAP Predictive Maintenance for early fault detection and operational maintenance planning. Thanks to Industry 4.0, service technicians or service partners all over the world can now receive their assignments on their mobile devices from the SAP cloud. An Enterprise App Store has also been set up.
With this solution for Industry 4.0 enriched by Predictive Maintenance and mobilization, KAESER now achieves the highest possible operational security for its globally distributed compressors. The mobilization optimizes service processes and therefore significantly increases customer satisfaction. For the customers the solution not only means risk-free production – it also means the first step in the digital factory, with “Compressed Air as a Service”.  Industry 4.0 at KAESER is an excellent example of how the most modern IT and communication technology produce lucrative business models.
