2019 saw the arrival of 5G. Telco providers got their own frequency bands for setting up 5G networks. The next months will see investments and a race to cover wide areas of the European market with public 5G capabilities. But – telco providers are not the only enterprises that see the value-add of top-notch mobile telephone networks. 5G networks can also be provided as private campus networks for production sites or as a means to effectively connect remote industry sites. 5G campus networks have the potential to revolutionize processes on enterprise campuses, e.g. for intralogistics, massive machine-to-machine communication for smart factories or the introduction of new capabilities like AR and VR.
All things considered 5G enables a bunch of new opportunities—for efficiency first, but as well for innovation. And 5G is here to stay. The ever-increasing demand for network bandwidth, high application performance (from the cloud) and improved user experience will path the way to a broad adoption of 5G. And 5G will be a game changer in the future markets.
But – not every case needs 5G. Sometimes the next generation Wi-Fi or the setup of a 4G campus network might be the best solution today. Finding the right usage scenarios will be key to reap the benefits of 5G and to get the maximum return from investments.
