Networks have to be adaptable and agile, capable of accommodating changing business needs. IP VPNs provide an answer to challenges such as growing data volumes and the demand for seamless collaboration across multiple sites – in the shape of a simple, scalable solution. They enable powerful connections to be forged between people, sites and applications.
MPLS-based connectivity
IntraSelect is an IP VPN offering, comprising a choice of connectivity modules for integration of permanent sites, mobile employees and extranets. It is possible to vary bandwidth, increase the number of sites or add new services in line with changing business requirements. Key elements include the highly functional MPLS platform for managed connections, and new features for smart, efficient data transport.
Integration of small-scale sites at low cost
Platforms such as IntraSelect harness path-based routing to distribute load efficiently in line with application needs, and to enable dynamic responses to resource bottlenecks. Platform solutions allow flexibility when choosing the most suitable technology for each access point. In other words, it is possible to deploy highly affordable low-bandwidth lines for small-scale sites, and to implement broadband for major offices and cloud service providers – with one and the same platform. It also means quick-and-easy scalability should load increase.
Traffic offloading and other mechanisms enable the utilization of otherwise idle backup resources during regular operations. For example, a secure connection is configured as an additional transmission path, and employed for back-up purposes as well as for accommodating peaks in load. Low-priority traffic is offloaded, ensuring the cost-effective use of existing assets.
Worldwide connectivity guarantees high quality and availability
IntraSelect is produced on T-Systems’ high-performance IP MPLS platform, supporting approximately 4,047,000,000 megabytes (4.0 petabytes) of IP traffic daily and worldwide. This backbone platform enables global data exchange, in combination with exceptionally high availability, a large number of PoPs, and rapid rerouting. The worldwide network infrastructure, with approximately 300,000 kilometers of fiber-optic cables, is constantly beeing extended and enhanced. Currently, T-Systems manages more than 1,800 IP VPNs for some 68,000 sites, and 278,000 routers and switches at customer locations around the globe.
