Cloud solutions securely retrieve data from a range of sources and sensors in T-Systems' data centers. Here, corporate customers use the data collected for evaluations on which to base new and existing business models. Over the years, we have built a cloud ecosystem that conforms to strict German data protection policies. It now includes around 150 partner solutions. For a long time, our goal was only aimed at making cloud sales with the private cloud (i.e. a special solution for one specific customer). In the meantime, our public cloud applications and the Open Telekom Cloud have been gaining traction.
Numerous cloud options from T-Systems come from the "House of Clouds", a high-performing data center in Biere, near Magdeburg. The data control center facilitates quick processing and evaluation, practically under one roof. Biere is known as the "Fort Knox" of data centers and has developed into a European data hub. In 2018, T-Systems completed a further expansion of the data center in Biere. Through this new expansion stage, the center now has a capacity of 150 petabytes for processing and saving cloud data.
Telekom is constantly developing its network infrastructure as a driving force of digitalization and invests billions into it annually. Internet protocol (IP) is an increasingly-popular technical basis. Next generation networks (NGN) and all-IP networks give companies the opportunity to offer their services and applications with new business models on the internet.
Smart parking is the perfect example of the cloud and networks meshing together to produce IoT real-time capability. It simplifies the search for a parking space in Hamburg: drivers can find free parking spaces using the T-Systems app, reserve them, and pay. In addition, the city and service providers have digitalized 11,000 public parking spaces. Sensors are used to communicate with drivers' smartphones and tell them where they can find a free parking space. As digitalization projects depend on scaling, Telekom Smart Parking is now offered across Germany – with great interest from cities.
Whether it's cloud computing, artificial intelligence, or big data – all of these technologies present entirely new requirements for IT security. In addition to this, cyber attacks on company networks and IT systems are becoming increasingly sophisticated and have developed into a huge threat to the economy. As such, data protection and security are a decisive factor for success. For this reason, Deutsche Telekom founded the "T-Systems Security" department under the umbrella of T-Systems. It collects all security activities together, along with the experience of around 1,200 security experts. In this way, the Group does everything it can to protect its own IT systems and networks, as well as the data from corporate and private customers, against online attacks. Furthermore, customers, from citizens to large groups, should receive innovative security solutions. With this in mind, Telekom is continuously adapting its Magenta Security Portfolio to new requirements. Not only that, T-Systems Security operates its own "Cyber Defense and Security Operation Center" (SOC) in Bonn, one of the largest and most modern of it's kind in all of Europe.
For the uninterrupted availability of systems and infrastructures, T-Systems has also developed and introduced the Zero Outage Quality Program. This is accompanied by the construction of a complete quality control ecosystem. All program partners are committed to a zero-error policy, as well as common quality management rules.
Disruptive technologies bring about entirely new requirements for IT security – not least thanks to the exponential rise in cyber crime. T-Systems controls operative business according to business fields. These four subject areas are the main focus points: connectivity, the digital world, the cloud, and security. To be more specific, this includes network services, infrastructure solutions based on public and private cloud platforms, SAP, high-security solutions for public clients, customer-specific system integration options, digitalization solutions and offers on topics like the Internet of Things, security and tolls, as well as health and smart cities. The respective business fields hold the operative responsibility starting with solution design, through specialist distribution, down to the total responsibility for delivery and customer service.
The offers are not only stand-alone, they can also be combined with one another according to different individual customer requirements. Not only can these be applied to public cloud portfolios, they can be applied to the infrastructure of the Managed Infrastructure Service offers too. More connected devices, the "Internet of Things", and a stark increase in mobile data traffic have rendered information and communication technology increasingly important. The provision and operation of IT and telecommunication platforms therefore becomes a central factor for success that corresponds with different developments: data is no longer stored on devices, but centrally in large volumes. The use of cloud services continues to grow, which in turn increases the pressure on conventional services and their providers.
There are new challenges in the data security and protection sectors. New standards (e.g. in areas like Industry 4.0, M2M, big data, intelligent networks) are being defined and increase the benefit to the customer. However, this also produces new options for data use in the digital economy and new comprehensive business model chains (B2B2C models).
