Paving the way for industry 4.0 and smart factory

Mastering product and production complexity as well as digital transformation with product lifecycle management

PLM synchronizes data, processes and partner companies

Digitalization raises production processes to another level while simultaneously increasing product complexity. Consequently, PLM solutions today have to create company-wide transparency and to this end manage data, alter processes, and overcome silo thinking. This is because numerous internal departments and external partners have to pull together under great time pressure. Innovative approaches, such as model-based systems engineering, meet the growing requirements of product development.

Production-accelerated product lifecycle management

The future belongs to product lifecycle management that facilitates two things: holistic consideration of the entire production chain and logistics and a detailed consideration of individual trades and their status quo beyond company boundaries. A comprehensive concept not only administers isolated product data, but also integrates applications, interfaces, and processes across all organizational units of a company. Data and information across products and their development process must be free of redundancy and always be currently available.

The more closely interconnected development partners, the lower the costs for complaints and the removal of defects. Software should make it possible to plan the result as precisely as possible, from the first structural analysis to the virtual prototypes, long before the start of production and sales activities. The ability to continue to use development data irrespective of the source system will shorten the time-to-market and help to avoid errors. If the production data are used consistently, PLM – paired with big data analyses – can become a top-class productivity accelerator.

PLM from the cloud

Cloud PLM maps all of the product development work steps. Instead of having to maintain large IT capacities and software licenses, you can use all PLM resources required flexibly as a service and pay according to requirements.  Only costs per user and day arise instead of fixed annual costs. You can develop products with CAD (computer-aided design) systems in the cloud and check them with CAE (computer-aided engineering) methods. You can also make flexible use of high performance computing resources from one of Europe's fastest data centers.

PLM Digital Twin

The PLM digital twin is a digital image of a real product or process across its lifecycle. It facilitates statistical evaluations of a product, the recognition of anomalies, or further predictions with respect to the quality and behavior of the product in practice. The digital twin systematically provides engineers with the information they need for their constructions. Product designs can be optimized immediately on the basis of real values and oriented more to the needs of the client – with simultaneous optimization of costs and processes. In addition, new data-driven business models are facilitated – for example, the provision of features or updates "over-the-air."

From CAx and PLM to ERP

A tried-and-tested approach in practice is to expand the standard software products of Aras, Dassault Systèmes, PTC or Siemens PLM into high performance integration and collaboration solutions. Whether CAx, PDM or ERP: we are very familiar with the special requirements imposed by the tightly synchronized work in development projects on processes, methods and IT tools. Our extensive solution portfolio consists of PLM simulation tools, PLM integration and migration products, PLM collaboration programs and 3D data converters.
