Managing sustainability with SAP solutions

From mandatory reporting to competitive advantage: How companies can achieve their sustainability goals

Does less regulation also mean less responsibility?

Many companies have invested heavily in sustainability and are already seeing the benefits: more resilient supply chains, improved data quality, and stronger positioning with customers and investors. Despite the Omnibus Package, key EU sustainability requirements remain in force. Companies that integrate sustainability into operational SAP processes can turn compliance into a competitive advantage, enabled by the SAP Business Data Cloud.

FAQ

What is SAP Analytics Cloud?

SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is a core component of the SAP Business Data Cloud and serves as a platform for analytics and planning. It combines reporting, self-service analytics, and integrated enterprise planning within a single interface. In addition to data from SAP sources such as SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW/4HANA, and SAP Datasphere, SAC can also integrate non-SAP data from third-party systems and cloud sources. The AI assistant SAP Joule, which can be accessed through natural language prompts, uses SAC data and tools to automatically generate analyses and insights.

How can sustainability be controlled?

Sustainability targets are now part of every annual report. Yet only a few companies manage sustainability operationally by using reliable, real-time data directly from their SAP systems. This is exactly where T-Systems comes in: we combine SAP solutions such as SAP Analytics Cloud with your sustainability strategy, from CO₂ tracking and ESG reporting to budget simulation. The foundation is a sovereign infrastructure such as the Industrial AI Cloud in Munich which is sustainably operated and built on a sovereign AI stack.

How does SAP Analytics Cloud make sustainable data treasures visible?

Many companies and public authorities possess vast amounts of data that often remain underutilized. SAP Analytics Cloud helps collect, analyze, and visualize this data transparently. One example is a German federal state that, with support from T-Systems, mapped its budget expenditure to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The visualization process consisted of three steps: allocating expenditures to sustainability goals, conducting an impact analysis based on statistical data, and finally creating simulations to support future budget planning. This approach can also be applied across other organizations and industries.

Will my data remain in Germany?

Yes. T-Systems operates its own data centers in Germany and ensures data sovereignty through the BSI-certified Telekom SAP platform, on which SAP systems such as SAP S/4HANA are operated securely and sovereignly. SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) is currently hosted exclusively in SAP data centers. However, the data sovereignty of the source systems remains fully protected: with a live data connection, SAC accesses only metadata, while master and transactional data remain entirely within the source system.

What are the benefits of blockchain for sustainability?

How about combining blockchain with your coffee? In our showcase, coffee cultivation is connected with SAP, blockchain, and IoT technologies. From sowing the seeds and growing the plants to harvesting the coffee beans, all relevant data is recorded immutably on the blockchain. This enables every cup of coffee to be traced back to its exact batch, thus ensuring transparency, traceability, resilience, and protection against tampering. In addition, IoT sensors capture weather and soil data, enabling the targeted use of resources such as water. As a result, sustainability can not only be measured but also tracked down to the individual product.

What does T-Systems stand for when it comes to sustainability?

Our parent company, Deutsche Telekom, achieved net zero in its own operations by the end of 2025, reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by more than 94%. For T-Systems, this meant actively supporting the transformation toward climate neutrality, from defining the data strategy to achieving the target. This experience flows directly into our end-to-end SAP Managed Services, including support for your RISE with SAP journey. As a result, you do not have to start from scratch but can benefit from proven approaches to sustainability and climate neutrality.

What does the Industrial AI Cloud do?

Companies that want to train AI models using their own data, for example, to generate tailored ideas for greater sustainability need an infrastructure that is both sustainable and sovereign. The Industrial AI Cloud from T-Systems in Munich provides exactly that: operations powered by 100% green electricity, a PUE value of 1.2, and data storage in Germany without hyperscaler lock-in. Using the SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) as an integrated PaaS solution, companies can connect data from SAP and third-party systems on a standardized basis. This is not just a technical advantage, but the sovereign foundation on which secure and reliable analytics can run.
