Medical doctors make critical decisions every day based on medical studies, clinical guidelines, and patient data. Together with the Langen-based startup Prof. Valmed, Deutsche Telekom / T-Systems is bringing an AI-powered solution to hospitals and medical practices that makes medical knowledge available directly within the clinical workflow. Prof. Valmed supports diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making and integrates seamlessly into existing hospital and practice systems.
“Medical doctors need rapid access to reliable medical knowledge,” said Uwe Heckert, CEO of Detecon and COO of T Health. “With Prof. Valmed, we support clinicians directly in their daily work. The solution combines certified AI with the healthcare sector's high standards for data protection, security, and transparency.” Vera Roedel, CEO of Prof. Valmed, added: “Medical doctors must be able to understand how a recommendation is generated. That is why Prof. Valmed incorporates medical history, patient records, and clinical context into every analysis. All recommendations are transparent, verifiable, and supported by source references.”
Prof. Valmed is Germany's first CE Class IIb-certified large language model designed to support medical decision-making across all clinical specialties. The solution can be integrated into existing hospital information systems and practice management software, allowing healthcare professionals to continue working within their familiar digital environments. For example, a general practitioner using established practice software can access Prof. Valmed directly within the system. Based on factors such as age, gender, medical history, and other clinical information, the solution provides evidence-based recommendations for diagnostics and treatment. The AI draws on a medical knowledge library containing more than 2.5 million curated and validated documents. Unlike open AI systems, Prof. Valmed relies exclusively on controlled medical sources. Every response is traceable and linked to supporting references, a critical factor in ensuring high-quality patient care.
Medical doctors need rapid access to reliable medical knowledge. With Prof. Valmed, we support clinicians directly in their daily work. The solution combines certified AI with the healthcare sector's high standards for data protection, security, and transparency.
Studies and practical experience have shown that publicly available large language models can produce errors in clinical settings. Prof. Valmed therefore relies on a closed medical data architecture and a retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) knowledge system based on validated sources. The result is transparent, evidence-based, and factually grounded responses. Responsibility for diagnosis and treatment always remains with the treating physician. The solution supports all medical specialties, from primary care to highly specialized clinical disciplines.
Prof. Valmed can process existing patient information in a structured manner and prepare it for clinical decision-making. Key information from patient records is consolidated and analyzed in context, reducing the time required to search for information and allowing healthcare professionals to spend more time on direct patient care. The platform also supports multilingual interaction, helping healthcare professionals care for international patients more effectively.
The solution has been designed as modular decision intelligence and can be integrated into a wide variety of healthcare systems through standard interfaces, from university medical centers and hospitals to outpatient Medical doctors practices. Integrations with platforms such as iMedOne are also possible.
Trust, data privacy, and digital sovereignty are essential prerequisites for the use of AI in healthcare. “As a next step in our collaboration, we plan to provide Prof. Valmed through the T Cloud,” said Vera Roedel. “Telekom's cloud infrastructure meets the highest standards for data protection and information security.” All data is processed exclusively in Germany. The data centers are certified according to ISO 27001, BSI C5, and DIN EN 50600. This ensures that digital healthcare communications remain secure and sovereign.
Prof. Valmed develops AI-based solutions for healthcare. The company combines medical expertise, regulatory compliance, and advanced AI technology to create a secure platform for evidence-based clinical decision support. The solution is already in use in clinical environments and supports healthcare professionals in diagnosis, treatment, and training.
