AI solutions have great potential to reduce the burden on healthcare in a sustainable way by automating medical documentation, supporting coding, and assisting healthcare professionals with clinical decision-making. Sovereign, secure European AI solutions are becoming increasingly important to meet high standards for data protection and transparency while strengthening digital independence. With this approach, Europe aims to make day-to-day work in healthcare significantly easier and “give one billion hours back to Europe’s healthcare professionals,” leaving more time for direct patient care and high-quality medical treatment.
T.Capital, the strategic investment arm of Deutsche Telekom, is investing in Tandem Health as part of the company’s Series B fundraise. Sweden-based health-tech company is an AI Medical Assistant in Europe, bringing clinical documentation, coding and decision support together in one platform. Tandem is used by 10,000 care organisations in 14 markets and integrates with 130 medical record systems. It is certified as a Class IIa medical device under the EU Medical Device Regulation. ”We want to give one billion hours back to European clinicians, so doctors and nurses spend less time on paperwork and more time with patients”, says Lukas, Saari Co-Founder and CEO of Tandem Health.
The investment underlines the strategic importance of artificial intelligence for the future of healthcare and further strengthens the position of Deutsche Telekom and T-Systems in the growing market for digital health solutions.
“Artificial intelligence will play a key role in addressing the challenges facing healthcare systems. With Tandem Health, we are investing in a fast-growing European company that meaningfully reduces the administrative workload of healthcare professionals while meeting the highest standards of quality, security and compliance,” says Karine Peters, Managing Director at T.Capital. “We believe Tandem Health’s team can build technology that makes a real difference for healthcare professionals across Europe and helps improve the quality and efficiency of care. Supporting that ambition makes this a strategically compelling investment for T.Capital.”
Healthcare systems across Europe are under increasing pressure. Workforce shortages, increasing documentation requirements, and economic challenges are placing a significant burden on hospitals and healthcare providers. AI-powered solutions can make an important contribution by automating administrative tasks and improving the efficiency of clinical processes.
Healthcare needs trustworthy, secure and immediately deployable AI solutions. Tandem Health demonstrates how modern technology can enhance clinical workflows without compromising on data protection or patient safety. Together, we want to accelerate the adoption of innovation in healthcare delivery and continue driving the digital transformation of the healthcare sector.
Tandem Health is pursuing the vision of an AI-native operating system for European healthcare organisations. In addition to its current solutions for documentation, coding and clinicial decision support, the company is developing further intelligent applications for patient flow, appointment management, and administrative processes.
““Europe should be setting the standard for how AI enters healthcare, and that takes European partners who know how care is delivered here. With T-Systems already working alongside hospitals across Germany, Deutsche Telekom is exactly that partner. Together I’m confident we can bring more clinicians safely into the AI era,” explains Saari.
The investment forms part of Deutsche Telekom’s strategy to actively foster innovation in artificial intelligence, digital platforms, and sovereign cloud infrastructures, while opening up new growth opportunities in highly regulated industries.
