SAP has named T-Systems "Partner of the Year 2026 " in the public sector. The award recognizes the successful collaboration in digitalizing government institutions in Germany. T-Systems operates business-critical SAP systems for numerous institutions and is modernizing their IT step by step. Around half of Germany’s federal states rely on T-Systems’ SAP expertise.
The award confirms a development that has been evident in the public sector for years: administrations are consistently modernizing their IT. T-Systems has been supporting federal, state, and local governments for over 20 years—from operating central SAP systems to digitalizing administrative processes and procedures.
A central component of the modernization is the Telekom SAP platform from T-Systems, especially for public administration. It meets the highest requirements for data protection, availability, and sovereignty. The IT-Grundschutz-based platform is BSI-certified according to ISO 27001 and is operated entirely in German data centers. This enables authorities to maintain control over their data while meeting the strict requirements of the public sector.
Federal states trust us because we understand their processes—from budgets to personnel to safety-critical specialist procedures. For more than 20 years, we have been operating and modernizing the SAP systems of the public administration. As a strategic partner, we think ahead. With our AI data center, we enable authorities to use AI confidently—also on the basis of SAP BTP—and to improve administrative processes in a targeted manner.
Frank Scharpenberg, SVP T-Systems, Head of SAP Global Business Practice
With the AI data center, T-Systems is building a sovereign AI infrastructure for Germany and Europe. The Industrial AI Cloud is a flagship project of the "Made for Germany" initiative, which strengthens innovation and investment in Germany. On this infrastructure, business and public administration can safely use AI in the European legal area. The aim is to create a platform that digitally connects the state, citizens, and companies, while enabling new digital services.
The SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) forms the basis for securely merging data, applications, and AI. With the connection of SAP BTP to T-Systems' Industrial AI Cloud, authorities and companies can confidently use modern AI-based SAP applications, such as the SAP Joule AI agent.
At the same time, they retain full control over their data in the German legal area. Together, SAP and T-Systems are creating a high-performance digital infrastructure with the highest standards of data protection, security, sovereignty and reliability.
The award "SAP Partner of the Year Public" underscores the close partnership between SAP and T-Systems. Together, the two companies develop solutions that modernize administrations and enable new digital services, operated securely in the European legal area and perfectly tailored to the requirements of the federal, state, and local governments.
