Telekom/T-Systems launches the future of patient communication

TI-Messenger successfully launched

With TI-Messenger (TI-M), Telekom/T-Systems is revolutionizing digital communication in the healthcare sector. For those with health insurance, this means: a shorter waiting time, more convenience, and maximum safety. TI-M enables direct and encrypted communication with these health insurance companies, without telephone hotlines, paper forms or unsecured messenger services.

Health insurance policyholders communicate easily with BARMER

More than 8.3 million BARMER policyholders are using the service. TI-Messenger is integrated in the eCare app. "Patients can clarify medical concerns quickly and easily, securely transmit findings or invoices, and arrange or reschedule appointments digitally. This is a great relief for everyone involved and helps to save costs and relieve the burden on the healthcare system," explains Gottfried Ludewig, Head of Public and Health Industry at T-Systems.

Communication is end-to-end encrypted and meets the highest data protection standards. These include the ISO 27001 standard (including 27701), the C5 certificate from the German Federal Office for Information Security, and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

We want to radically improve the healthcare system—with digital identities, secure communication channels and solutions that really reach people.

Gottfried Ludewig, Head of Public and Health Industry T-Systems

The future of communication in the healthcare sector

Deutsche Telekom subsidiary T-Systems is contributing its extensive expertise in digital infrastructure and secure identity management to TI-M.

Telekom/T-Systems plans to roll out TI-M to other statutory and private health insurance companies in the future. The goal is to provide a comprehensive, interoperable communication solution for the healthcare sector, securely and efficiently connecting all stakeholders, including insured individuals, medical practices, and care facilities.

Secure operation in the cloud

By operating in the Open Sovereign Cloud (OSC), Telekom/T-Systems provides a secure infrastructure for TI-M in which the health data is reliably protected against unauthorized access and manipulation and is operated entirely from EU locations with EU personnel. In addition to TI-M, the Bonn-based telecommunications group also develops and operates the digital identities, with which insured persons can identify themselves securely and unambiguously, for example, for electronic patient files or e-prescriptions.
