Cloud-native modernization in Swiss agriculture

Creating a cloudification ‘cookbook’ with an actionable framework for the Federal Office for Agriculture

Digital leap through cloud innovation

To meet growing digital demands, Switzerland’s Federal Office for Agriculture (FOAG) partnered with T-Systems to modernize its legacy applications. With a tailored ‘cloud cookbook’, FOAG gained a clear roadmap for transitioning to a cloud-native environment—boosting efficiency, sustainability, and innovation across Swiss agriculture and research. Strategic cloud consulting is now key to its digital transformation journey.

Customer pain points

  • Use of outdated, non-cloud-native technologies in custom applications
  • Visibility into the application landscape was limited due to regulatory constraints prohibiting direct infrastructure scans
  • Lack of a structured approach in assessing the current mode of operation (CMO)
  • Uncertainty about selecting a preferred cloud provider, complicating the transition process
  • Risk of inefficiencies, delays, and disruptions in critical functions

How T-Systems solved it

  • Conducted a detailed assessment using discussions and questionnaires
  • Delivered a ‘cloud cookbook’, a strategic guide  with best practices, tailored examples,
    and modernization strategies
  • Designed the cookbook for the future mode of operation (FMO) instead of lift-and-shift migrations
  • Adopted a cloud-native approach for better scalability and efficiency, ensuring long-term alignment with goals

Business impact

  • Enabled clear, actionable framework for confident and informed decision-making
  • Aligned scalable and efficient application modernization with future needs
  • Reduced risk of disruptions and inefficiencies during the migration process
  • Strengthened operational capabilities to support agriculture with modernized technology
