Young Professional mit Verantwortung

Wie eine Young Professional das Management Board unterstützt

24. Oktober 2023

I started my professional journey as a young professional in May 2022. My first step into T-Systems, an international ITC company began for me with the role as business assistant to the Vice President of T-Systems’ Cloud Services Portfolio unit. A challenge that promised a huge variety of interesting topics. And this promise was kept.

P.S. Article is written in English as I am still in the process of learning German. 😊

I am a newcomer to Switzerland. Due to the horrible war in Ukraine, my native country, I came here in March 2022. Having arrived here, I was searching for an interesting opportunity for my professional development. I felt I needed something that can take my full attention.

In April, was looking for an apartment. During my search, I came across a person who was helping Ukrainians with their search for an apartment. During our conversation we also touched the subject of job search. After we talked a little bit about my background, I was offered to send in my CV so that it could be forwarded to potential employers with open positions. What a lucky punch! After this conversation I received an invitation for an interview at T-Systems. The interview turned out well and I was offered the opportunity to join T-Systems’ Young Professionals Program. This development program is designed for young people who just entered the job market and offers a motivating chance to try yourself in different areas of the IT world.

My first working day in a new country and new workplace started with a meeting with my supportive and sympathetic superior, Daniela Bütikofer. It is safe to say that she is great at understanding people and their talents. Hence, she knows how to find the best suitable projects for every team member according to their individual talents. As a young professional I started on the so-called HUB:ABLE project platform. The different departments can ask for support from HUB:ABLE and have a Young Professional support them for a limited period of time. The Young Professionals can use and develop their existing skills and find new fields of interest, expand and improve their talents. This is where I took my first steps at T-Systems as a business assistant for Thorsten Bolz, Vice-President of Cloud Services International and Switzerland

In my very first week at work, I was accompanied by my buddies, two Young Professional colleagues, who have introduced me to the T-Systems world in a very friendly and supportive way. It was extremely helpful for me to have them on my side and to meet the whole YP team.

Zurich and how we got started

My professional journey started by meeting with my line manager, Thorsten Bolz, who is also part of the management team. I was anticipating interesting work in many different topics, going along with one of the leading faces of the company. Looking back, this anticipation proved to be just right. Despite his full workload during our first face-to-face meeting, I always received support in my work and had a clear vision of my future responsibilities.

My first responsibility was to quickly get involved in the organization of two workshops, first in Zurich and then in Vienna. I was very excited about my new assignment as I really like to organize events. In Zurich I started „learning by doing“ as the city was completely new to me. I had to find locations and suppliers for the upcoming event, such as conference rooms, catering companies, hotels and restaurants. After clarifying the vision and some details, I created a planner for myself with all the necessary details and deadlines. Step by step, all the pieces for the big day came together. I still remember worrying when I entered the planning phase. Naturally, I wanted everything to go well. Luckily, in the end everything worked out perfectly fine. We spent two days of the Program Increment (PI) planning. For me, it was a pleasure to meet the entire Swiss Cloud Services team in person. I learned a lot during this time, and it helped me understand the organization a lot better.

In July 2022, I had the exciting opportunity to be part of an international workshop in Budapest and Slovakia, and to meet the entire International Cloud Services Core Team in person, which includes professionals from all over the world. Our daily work is full of new information, planning meetings and coordination. All these topics progress better and better with strong support from my superior Thorsten, who can always give me the right advice. I learned a lot from his extensive experience as responsible manager for several countries and his expertise in operating a successful business. Cloud services are a major and important part of IT nowadays. I am grateful to be part of this field and to be able to professionally develop in this direction.

HUB:ABLE

Being a part of T-Systems’s Young Professionals platform to me means having a great motivation and the possibility to grow professionally and personally. Collaborating with experienced colleagues enables me to become a qualified specialist. I always found it very rewarding to be able to try my skills in different areas. One of my next projects was to support the Marketing department in the preparation of a big annual company event. Now, I joined the migration project „Data Center 4.0” with the Project Management department, Something that also piques my interest a lot.

It's been more than a full year since I became part of this incredible company. I went through a lot of life changes during this period. At T-Systems, I am motivated to learn new language, develop myself in different areas of the company, such as business administration, marketing, and project management. The people I work with are supportive and experienced. The projects I'm involved in are very diverse and my interests have become clearer with every opportunity I had at HUB:ABLE. I appreciate this inclusive environment that helps young professionals to apply and develop their talents and interests in the respective areas of the company.
