Workplace IT: rapid and simple sourcing from the cloud
"Complexity damages business." 70 percent of executives worldwide say this, according to Bain, a consultancy. This makes complexity a problem – one that affects many people. According to the "Human Capital Trends report 2015" from Deloitte, 75 percent of international executives consider their working environment to be complicated or very complicated. Workplace IT and workplace organization are crucial factors here, because in addition to being simple themselves, they also have to simplify working. These demands arise from two sources at companies: from individual employees and entire specialist departments.
"State-of-the-art workplaces are a critical factor for being competitive."
Dr. Andreas Stiehler, PAC, 2014
Employees are accustomed to intuitive technology from their personal lives and also want to enjoy this convenience at the workplace. They also want to become more mobile thanks to devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs and to be able to use all their applications – including their personal apps – at all times. They are often disappointed, however. No less than 60 percent of German employees think their IT working environment is "not state-of-the-art," according to a survey by analyst firm PAC. The survey participants even know how to improve things: one in three employees would like to use (additional) collaboration tools, especially to work on documents together and to share knowledge.
Specialist departments, for example, want the ability to order new applications quickly and easily. In the "IT Trends 2015" survey, nearly a third of CIOs said that providing IT services faster was one of the three most important demands of their departments. New employees have to be provided with the necessary workplace IT quickly, for example. Collaboration tools are especially important, because more and more employees are working on the go or at different sites. Currently, however, just under a fifth of German specialists and executives use collaboration tools, according to the magazine "Wissensmanagement" (Knowledge Management).
One way companies can obtain simplified collaboration and intuitive workplace IT is through services from the cloud. Thanks to such offerings, they can purchase individual collaboration solutions flexibly, unify them with all other applications on a clear user interface, and even set up the entire workplace IT at the click of a mouse.
