With more than 25 years of experience in telecommunications and IT security, Ulrich Heister is now Vice President Fraud & Abuse Management for Deutsche Telekom. After studying information technology at RWTH Aachen, he worked in research for several years. He has worked at Deutsche Telekom in various roles since 1996. During this time, he has acquired extensive knowledge of various security topics, such as cryptography, security management, big data, and data science. He has been involved in the development of encryption and authentication algorithms for mobile communications and worked in the area of Security Consulting for several years. In addition, he has worked for Telekom Laboratories (T-Labs) and managed research and development projects in close cooperation with Ben-Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel.
Alongside his role as VP Fraud & Abuse Management, Ulrich is the technical business owner of the digital hub “Cyber Defense & Internal Security” and is responsible for matters including the development of the Fraud & Abuse Management systems and the Security Information and Event Management System (SIEM), IT systems, and IT applications for the identification of fraud and cyber attacks on a scalable big data architecture. For this development, Telekom Security received the Outstanding Security Performance Award 2020.
